In two sentences
We collect the minimum needed for you to play and be ranked: an email, a pseudo, your games. We sell nothing, run no ads, and use only strictly necessary cookies.
1. Who is responsible
The data controller is the publisher of HopOn, private individuals acting on a non-professional basis (see the legal notices). For any question about your data, and to exercise your rights: contact@hoponthegame.com — that address is the one that counts, and we answer it.
2. What we collect, and why
3. On what basis
Performance of the contract (the terms of use) for everything that serves playing and ranking; our legitimate interest for security, anti-cheat and moderation; your consent for what is optional (the avatar, signing in with Discord or Google); our legal obligations for keeping logs.
4. Who has access
Nobody but us, except the strictly necessary providers:
- Hosting: OVH SAS, servers located in Strasbourg, France (European Union).
- Email delivery (verification, forgotten password): Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, 7 rue de Madrid, 75008 Paris).
- Signing in with Discord or Google, if you choose to: the provider passes us your identifier, your email and your name there, and nothing else. We post nothing to your account there.
No data is sold, rented or passed on for advertising. No third-party analytics tool is used.
Other players see your pseudo, your avatar, your ranks, and the result of games played against you. That is what a public leaderboard is.
5. Cookies
Only strictly necessary cookies, read by our servers alone: your session (keeps you signed in), a device identifier (security: telling one browser from another, for abuse detection), your language and theme preference, a mark saying only that an account is signed in on this browser — it holds neither your name nor your identifier, and it is there so the right page is drawn straight away instead of a waiting screen — and, if you arrived through someone's invitation link, that link's code, kept seven days at most so the person who invited you is credited, and erased as soon as your account exists. No advertising cookie, no third-party tracker — which is why there is no banner to accept.
6. Your rights
You can access your data, correct it, have it erased, restrict its use, object to it, and get a portable copy. In practice:
- your pseudo, avatar, email and password can be changed in the settings;
- “Download my data” in the settings gives you a copy;
- “Close my account” starts the erasure: after a 14-day cooling-off period, everything that identifies you is deleted or replaced by an anonymous identifier. Your past games remain, anonymous, because your opponents’ ranks rest on them.
For anything else, write to contact@hoponthegame.com. We answer within a month. If you believe your rights are not respected you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL (cnil.fr), the French data protection authority, or with your local authority.
7. Security
Hashed passwords, encrypted connections (HTTPS), restricted server access, encrypted backups. No system is infallible: in the event of a data breach likely to affect you, we will let you know.
8. Minors
The Service is for people aged 15 and over, or younger with a parent’s consent. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 15 without that consent; if that has happened, write to us and we will delete the account.
9. Changes
If this policy changes significantly, we say so in the Service before the change applies. The date at the top of the page is the reference.
